Gravity supported separation – Introduction
Density Gradient Centrifugation is the most common method for separating PeripheralBlood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC)- containing lymphocytes and monocytes) from red blood cells (RBC). Based on different density of each blood cell population they can be separated by a single step centrifugation with the corresponding density gradient medium. Beside of the most common solution for the isolation of PBMCs (density 1.077 g/ml) pluriSelect offers optimized density gradient media for the isolation of Leukocytes, Monocytes, Platelets and PBMCs from older blood. Density Gradient Centrifugation can principally be used for any separation of cells/particles if the targets have a distinctive density different from the unwonted contamination with particles or detritus. Our two different separation devices pluriMate® and TwinSpin® makes it possible to separate the target fraction independent if have a higher density or a lower density as the impurities.
The centrifugation tubes simplify handling and accelerate purification.
